Entering into therapy is, in my view, a way to courageously pursue life according to your deepest nature and desire, no matter what specific experiences, stressors, and forms of suffering have gotten your attention. I am passionate about joining and supporting you in this endeavor.
Whatever has gotten your attention may have helped you become aware of how you share in the universal human condition, in which difficult and painful experiences have damaging, alienating, and impairing effects on us, in ways that impact how we relate to ourselves, other people, and the wider world. These effects compound as we make attempts to cope on our own, often in ways that are unhelpful in the long run, when there is a lack of connection, care, and wisdom from others needed to work through and grow from our experiences.
I view my role as offering my full presence and attention in order to create with you a relational, reflective space in which both of us attend to your experience—past and present, how it shows up in your mind, emotions, and body, and what you have done and are continually doing with—with awareness, care, and wisdom to facilitate organic change, not only to relieve suffering and change unhelpful patterns, but to truly know yourself and flourish as the unique and fully interconnected being that you are.
I bring to this work a continually evolving sense of how our embodied psyches work and develop, based prominently on the psychoanalytic tradition, attachment theory, Internal Family Systems theory, and the Enneagram tradition. I also bring the perspective that we are deeply interconnected not only with those we have close bonds with but also with our communities, cultures, other forms of life, and the whole earth, and that in this interconnection we each have a unique nature and vocation that is intelligently and purposefully related to the whole.
I work with adults, teens, and couples. Some of the most common presenting areas of focus for people I work with are mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar; trauma and abuse, especially as related to family of origin; relationship challenges, such as in intimate partnerships, friendships, as well as social isolation and inhibition; struggles with identity, such as in categories of sexuality, gender, race, and culture; and questions of vocation, occupation, and place in community.
My fee is $140 per 55-minute session. I am in network with Premera, Lifewise, and First Choice Health Network, including some Kaiser PPO and out-of-state BCBS plans. I offer a reduced fee for a limited number of cash-pay clients with financial need.
